Clarice Phelps, a doctoral candidate in the Tickle College of Engineering’s Department of Nuclear Engineering, was named to People magazine’s annual “Women Changing the World” list for 2023.
Phelps, a program manager at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), was recognized along with ORNL scientific associate Candice Halbert for their work with YO-STEM, a nonprofit Halbert created to foster STEM opportunities and growth for underserved youth in and around Knoxville.
“I hope by the time our students get to where Candice and I are today, they won’t have to go through what we’ve been through, because those glass ceilings will have been broken and the pieces swept away,” Phelps told People.
