Senior Design is a two-semester course that ties together all the engineering, science, and humanities learnings as our students transition to the next phase of their lives. The courses focus on a project that provides a comprehensive, team-oriented design experience in which students apply their acquired knowledge and skills toward the solution of an actual problem faced by a community, agency, or corporation.

Benefits For Students
Students benefit from the opportunity to work on realistic design problems characterized by real-world constraints. To successfully complete the projects, they develop and demonstrate teamwork skills such as individual accountability, cooperation, communication, conflict resolution, and leadership. By the end of the course, students will understand a general design process, how to effectively contribute as a new employee in an industrial project, and be capable of independently designing a product of marketable value.

Y-12
Y-12 funded two design projects, totaling about $14,000, for the 2017-18 school year and they have committed to funding at least one project on safeguards by design beginning fall 2019.
Texas A&M University
NE and Texas A&M students worked on a joint team project in 2017-18.
Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
EPRI has funded about 7 projects, totaling about $35,000, since 2014.
MABE and EECS
NE students partnered with Mechanical Engineering students for two projects in 2018-19 and partnered with Electrical Engineering students for a project in 2017-18.
