Message from the Department Head

Wes Hines.

Welcome to the University of Tennessee Nuclear Engineering Department website. This information is provided as a service to prospective students, existing students, faculty, alumni, industrial colleagues, and anyone else seeking to learn more about the UT Nuclear Engineering Department.

The department’s strengths include an outstanding faculty of skilled teachers and productive researchers; close ties with the Oak Ridge National LaboratoryY-12 Nuclear Security Complex, nuclear utilities, and international research collaborations; attractive graduate assistantships; and scholarship opportunities for undergraduates. In addition to traditional nuclear engineering, concentrations in radiological engineering are also offered at all levels incorporating health physics, medical physics, and radiological assessment.

The UT Nuclear Engineering program is the second largest nuclear engineering program in the United States, and our graduate program is consistently ranked among the top ten in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.
