Doctoral student Edward Duchnowski was selected as the student service award winner for February for his role in making this year’s graduate recruitment event a success.
The selection committee noted that he took initiative and made all the arrangements for transporting students to the airport, planned and coordinated all the activities and social events while the recruits were here, and served as the face of the department’s graduate student body.
“Ed is very deserving of this award and is the perfect example of someone who goes above and beyond to help the Nuclear Engineering Graduate Student Association and the department as a whole,” said the committee.
Duchnowski said he was honored to receive the Nuclear Engineering Student Service Award and that having the opportunity to coordinate events with the faculty, staff, and graduate students was a tremendous experience.
“I cannot even begin to express my gratitude to all of the people who helped out, especially the graduate students,” he said. “They took time out of their day, even on nights and weekends, to drive the prospective graduate students to and from the airport, show off their research labs, assist with tours, and even share their personal experience and advice about graduate school. Our nuclear engineering graduate students at UT truly embody the Volunteer Spirit.”
