Luis Stand Stracuzzi

Research Assistant Professor

Biography

Stand specializes in the discovery and development of novel scintillator materials for state-of-the-art radiation sensors and imaging systems. He has been the driving force behind the invention and development of various new scintillators, including europium-doped KSr2I5 – an exceptionally proportional, high light yield scintillator with some of the best energy resolution ever measured in a scintillator.

Research

Stand’s research interests and expertise include the development of advanced crystal growth techniques for rapid screening of new compounds and for growth from the melt of high-quality high-performance large single crystal scintillators. Integral and complementary to his crystal growth research is his work on the characterization of optical and physical properties, with a special focus on scintillation materials for medical imaging systems and national security detection applications.
