The winner of the March 2023 Department of Nuclear Engineering Student Service Award is James Pierce. Pierce is both an Honors student and a Research Assistant at the Scintillation Materials Research Center.

“James serves as the Merchandise Coordinator for the ANS Student Conference. He is constantly on top of his tasks and is always asking what more he can do to help; when he is handed a problem to solve, he is quick at finding a manageable solution. Not only this, but James is an excellent team-player. He works very fluidly with all members of our committee and planning team, and he is always willing to extend a hand to those who need it,” said the selection committee when asked about his nomination.

Pierce has consistently demonstrated the traits necessary to succeed in both his education and future career pursuits. He was happy to share his view of both the department and his education at UT.

“I am extremely honored to receive this reward,” Pierce said. “The UT Nuclear Engineering department has always gone above and beyond to support me and my peers in whatever endeavors we choose, and for that, I am grateful. I want to thank all the amazing people who continue to support and uplift me, and I am so proud to work alongside the brilliant people in this department every day. Whether it is planning for the student conference, research, or just doing class work, I know there is someone I can rely on for support or advice, and I cannot wait to see what else my time at UT has to offer.”
