Sydney Copp Wins March Student Service Award

Doctoral student Sydney Copp is the most recent winner of the department’s Student Service Award. Copp was recognized for a variety of leadership contributions. Since May, she has served as the American Nuclear Society (ANS) chapter’s graduate student representative as well as the communications chair for the ANS conference proposal committee. She worked closely on the conference bid with other students in the department and counts the experience as a highlight of her graduate school experience.

“Sydney champions the Volunteer spirit by being a mentor and leader for the Department of Nuclear Engineering and for UT,” said the selection committee.

Copp said she can’t wait to see the ANS student conference come to fruition next year.

“I am so honored to receive this award,” she said. “Throughout my entire time at UT in both undergrad and grad school, there have been countless ways to get involved in our department, whether it’s through student organizations, planning future conferences, or collaborating with faculty and peers. I am incredibly grateful for each and every opportunity the department has provided me, and I look forward to see what rewarding experiences I’ll get to have in the future.”
