The Department of Homeland Security has granted SMRC director Charles Melcher $2.25 million to develop new semiconductors for use in nuclear security programs.

Associate Professor Eric Lukosi is using scintillators to conduct experiments related to potassium to help prove the existence of dark matter.

The department is part of the Nuclear Science and Security Consortium, an 11-member university consortium grant for research and development into nuclear science, engineering, and security.
